12 Nov 2023 Mental Health Day
This year’s Mental Health Day was celebrated on 10 October under the slogan “Mental health is a universal human right”, which emphasised the need for affordable, accessible and quality health care for people suffering from mental illness.
To mark the occasion, the Unit organized a week of celebration from 2 to 7 October.
Patients and staff from the centre carried out various joint activities, including making covers for computers and tablets, baking cakes and cleaning the facilities and outdoor areas. We also organised games of board games such as Scrabble, Ludo, Uno or draughts, as well as dodgeball and football, throughout one of the days, with the participation of family members.
On the 5th and 6th, staff from the Unit took part in radio broadcasts on Radio Maria and ECOWAS, in which we tried to raise awareness of mental illness and do informative and educational work.
The following day, we organized a celebration in the grounds of the Unit, to which former patients and families were invited, and various speakers gave talks about mental illness and the work, history and values of the Sisters Hospitallers.
The week of events ended on the 7th with a Thanksgiving service at the parish church of the Immaculate Conception.
