Un grupo de hombres, delante de un contenedor

25 Oct 2024 A container with donated materials arrives at our center.

On October 16, a container with different stuff donated by different companies and institutions arrived at the port of Monrovia. The container had left Spain on August 9, sponsored by EKI Foundation, an organization that provides solidarity financing and technical training for the installation of solar energy systems in educational, health or community centers in sub-Saharan Africa.

The container, transported through the Navarre-based NGO Ayuda Contenedores, was loaded with solar panels and material for several solar installations, one at Xavier Jesuit School, another for the Missions in Africa Society’s headquarters and another to provide light for the Salesians’ workshops in Monrovia prison.

In addition to the material for the solar installations, beds, mattresses, bedding, recliners, chairs, wheelchairs, orthopedics, cribs, food, computers, playgrounds, tools, goals, hygiene material, etc., some of which were destined for the Mental Health Unit of the Saint Benedict Menni Health Centre, also arrived in Monrovia.

In 2022, the EKI Foundation replaced the lead-acid batteries of our center’s previous power system with new lithium batteries, and replaced the solar panels that had been damaged due to a thunderstorm. The work was carried out by the faculty and students of the solar program at the Don Bosco Technical High School in Monrovia Liberia.

Both that solar installation and now the management of the shipment and delivery of materials for our center were directed by Ángel Galíndez, from Fundación EKI, to whom we are very grateful for his invaluable help, as well as to the companies that have donated materials:
