10 Jun 2024 Spreading awareness on depression on ECOWAS Radio
The work of the Mental Health Unit of the Benedict Menni Center in Monrovia not only comprises care and rehabilitation of women with mental illness: we also often carry out actions aimed at raising public awareness about mental health and wellbeing, as a way of spreading knowledge about these issues.
Recently, our coordinator Ato Kwamena Sagoe was invited by the ECOWAS radio station to speak about depression. ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) is an international organization formed by 15 African countries, integrated into the African Economic Community and seeks to promote political collaboration, economic integration and regional stability in West Africa. One of the means they use for this purpose in Liberia is ECOWAS Radio, a radio station that broadcasts non-partisan and trustworthy public information as a way to promote democracy, peace, stability and good governance.
Ato Kwamena’s intervention took placeoon “You and Your Health” show, and our coordinator talked about depression, a common mental disorder that involves a depressed mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time.
